What makes an effective-and legal-visual presentation? Many times we wonder about the visual part of our presentation- Do we want a lot of visuals? Do we need the audience to see certain diagrams or pictures in order to understand our ideas?   One major difficulty about images is that many are copyrighted.  Be careful not to use copyrighted images in the public unless you have permission to do so.  This is illegal and also disrespectful to the owner.  Sometimes we are not sure we can use the image or not, and so should use our best judgement. We are free to use just about any image from any .gov site, since we pay our taxes and are part of this country.  Check to see If your school  or work has resources that have free photo archives to choose from.

75% of learning is done visually (The Oxford Brookes university). We can use visuals as a powerful tool in our presentations.

Of course, we do not wish to concentrate only on visual learning. We need to show our visuals, but sometimes it is a good idea to show them a visual for a little and then put it away to help them focus on you again.

Handouts are a good way to help the audience remember your speech. Give them out before or after your presentation so they do not get distracted during the middle.
